Translation

(Extract from Yin Tseung Po, Canton. 19th. May,1926.)

Visit paid by Col. Malone to the Strike Committee.

Colonel Malone, an English M.P. of the Labour Party,

came to Canton from Shanghai on the 15th. with Tung Kai Ngan,

Professor of the Peking University. They paid a visit to the

Strike Committee at 12 noon on the 17th. So Shiu Ching, President of the Committee, delivered a speech welcoming them. In reply, Colonel Malone rose and said "I beg to express my

hearty thanks for the cordial welcome you have extended to

me today. In the future there will be a closer union between

the workmen of China and England, which is a very happy thing

indeed. I believe that the English workmen will do their

utmost to help the Chinese workmen and will join with them to attack the imperialists. I have established a New Agency

in Peking, and I am anxious to open a branch in Canton, Through this agency, I shall give a light to the English

workmen as to the facts of the Imperialist victimisation,

so that an Impeachment can be made against Imperialism. But I regret to say that I am not quite clear as to the

facts in connection with the victimisation of China by the

Imperialists".

Then he asked, "It has been published in the Hongkong

Press that of late many workmen have returned to Hongkong to

work.

Is it a fact?" So Shiu Ching replied, "Some time ago the Hongkong Government took steps to recruit wormen from Shanghai and Fukien, but without result, and it did not affect the Canton and Hong Long Strike." Malone again asked, "Does the fact that a number of men are working in Hong Kong affect the Strike? What policy are you pursuing against the
